Department of Pediatrics

Dr. Khalid Idriss Hospital (KIH) is committed to the welfare of children and greatly values the need for specialized medical facilities to care for and to prevent any ailments that may affect them. The department is equipped with the latest medical technologies as well as it is run by a fully-dedicated pediatric team managing sick children 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The department consists of:

Outpatient Clinics & Inpatient Services:Our clinics are run by consultants and specialists to diagnose and manage diseases of children as well as vaccinations and periodic check-ups of all patients. It is supported by inpatient services whereas admitted children are given care in holistic and homely environment by our consultants and nurses.

The Nursery: Our nursery caters services to well babies delivered in the hospital managed by our skilled nurses and examined by our consultants twice daily for the duration of their stay in order to ensure early detection of any illnesses or complications. Routine Audiology and thyroid screening are also performed. Moreover, mothers are educated by our nurses and physicians for care of babies and breastfeeding..

Neonatal ICU (NICU):Our NICU is designed and well-equipped with latest medical technology to treat premature babies and critically ill neonates.
It has three (3) sub-units:

  • Neonatal ICU (NICU) caters for premature and critically ill unstable infants with medical or surgical conditions.
  • Intermediate Special Care Neonatal Unit (ISCNU) caters for stable premature infants who improved from NICU and neonates not requiring assisted ventilation such as those having mild respiratory distress, hypoglycemia, low birth weight or those requiring phototherapy. It is equipped with most modern incubators, centralized oxygen and phototherapy unit and built-in wall suction with continuous monitoring by our skilled nurses and NICU physicians.
  • Isolation Unit is equipped with the required facilities and equipment which caters critically ill neonates with suspected/diagnosed sepsis and those admitted from the Emergency Room or delivered outside the hospital.
