History and Milestone

Since healthcare is a noble profession devoted to the promotion of the welfare of humanity, Dr. Khalid Idriss Hospital has been a humanitarian medical center and a pioneer in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia being the first private Hospital in Jeddah. It was founded in the year 1946 by the late DR. KHALID MOHAMMAD IDRISS.

The hospital has been the nucleus, the core leading to a breakthrough of medical development in the ambitious country. The founding father, Dr. Khalid Idriss did not only update the scientific and technical basis of the medical field but also established rules and regulations to perform within the methodology of the profession through ethical standards in order to launch the medical development and growth to a much broader perspective. Therefore, contributing to a structure of continuous advancement in the development of medicine in Saudi Arabia.

The Royal Approval to proceed with the establishment of the first private hospital was obtained in 23/11/1369. Historically, this notable private facility had ten beds and a small staff recruited from Jeddah to work with Dr. Khalid. This groundbreaking even led most assuredly to better health awareness, knowledge and foundation a time when the need was so great. The hospital flourished in its care as a medical center founded to treat people of all walks of like.

Indeed, the influence of popularity did not overshadow Dr. Khalid’s deep humanitarian concern with regards to the needy. The perception grew and the activity expanded and eventually, led to establishment of a larger center based on modern scientific methods.

Dr. Khalid opened a new hospital in 1957 with seventy-five beds appropriately named “New Jeddah Hospital”. His plan was ambitious, unique and adventurous as he recruited a large number of western doctors and nurses from Australia, Italy and Germany. The Idriss Hospital was the first of its kind to have the modern equipment and well-equipped operating theater. This advancement has contributed a major step in the development of medicine in the Kingdom. This hospital was known as King Saud Hospital functioned privately for three years and was later converted to a public hospital, then a referral center for the Western Province before being moved to Mina where it continued to function under the same name.

In 1961, Dr. Khalid founded a third hospital, the present “DR. KHALID IDRISS HOSPITAL” located at Al-Mattar Street in Jeddah. Commencing the establishment and equipping this new building, it became the representative of the highest modern medical standards. Dr. Khalid’s professionalism and dedication to health care were greatlt valued and adored by the people of Jeddah and the western region.

In 1963, Dr. Khalid took partnership with Dr. Sharif HarethRafiqSadek. The hospital was then named Dr. Khalid Idriss Hospital & Partners.

1979, Dr. WalidIdriss joined the hospital as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynecology holding an American Board in Infertility from Harvard University in USA. In the same year, a new six storey annex building was eventually initiated extending the utilization of the most modern methods of treatment, care and equipment. Acclaim for Idriss Hospital never waned, its excellent reputation upheld in every sense.

1982, Dr. Khalid completed the construction of a well-renowned 180-bed facility hospital in the Corniche of Jeddah. For eight years, the Ministry of Health took charge of managing the institution named “Al-Shaty Hospital”. After ten years, the hospital functioned as Idriss Hospital.

In 1993, Dr. Khalid passed away (may his soul rest in peace). The heritage moves on and the joined continues through his son, Dr. WalidIdriss who works on the path of his father. As the hospital continues to flourish under the management of his daughter, Rola Khalid Idriss who was specialized Hospital Management from Columbia University in America, having successful administrative capabilities and keeping to continue the professional characteristics and standards developed by her father.

The institution adopted the principle of ongoing renewal and development using the skills and expertise of a team of physicians supported by qualified professionals providing vital contribution to ensure the provision of the highest level of medical services.

As KIH continue to progress in the 21st century, various expansion programs and renovations have been instituted to cater and manage the growing number of customers, maintaining its position in the healthcare industry. Several modernizations in its facilities and upgrades in equipment have been initiated to support the increasing demands for safe and quality healthcare services.

In 2012, KIH achieves the National Hospital Standards in Quality awarded by the Central Board of Accreditation for Healthcare institutions (CBAHI) under the authority of the Ministry of Health.

The legacy of Dr. Khalid lives on today through the family of Dr. Khalid Idriss Hospital who continue to ensure the provision of quality medical care within ethical and professional standards.

 

افتتاح «مركز هيفاء ادريس للخصوبة» في «الأميركية»

بتمويل من عائلة ادريس، تمّ افتتاح مركز «هيفاء ادريس للخصوبة - قسم الغدد الإنجابية» في «الجامعة الأميركية في بيروت - المركز الطبي» بعد إعادة تأهيله وتجديده.

يوفر المركز الى جانب الخدمات العلاجية للمرضى خدمات نوعية وتعليم للمرأة وللأطباء على حد سواء، بالإضافة الى كونه مركز أبحاث متقدماً في علم الإنجاب، ويضم أطباء اختصاصيين في علم الخصوبة والإنجاب.

استهل الافتتاح الذي حضره أفراد عائلة ادريس والطاقم الطبي بترحيب من مسؤول المركز جوني عواد الذي لفت الى «أهمية المركز في تقديم التوعية والمعالجة بتقنيات متطورة لمساعدة التناسل ومعالجة العقم عند السيدات، منوهاً بعطاء عائلة ادريس لتأهيل المركز».

من جهته، أشاد رئيس دائرة الجراحة النسائية والتوليد في المستشفى أنور نصار «بدور المركز في تقديم العناية اللازمة للمرأة ومساعدتها وتوعيتها في موضوع الإنجاب والعقم».

واعتبر مدير المركز الطبي حسان الصلح «أن المركز يضم أطباء كفوئين هدفهم مساعدة المرضى وتقديم التوعية والعلاج اللازم للعقم والأمراض التناسلية وخصوصاً للنساء وفق التقنيات الحديثة»، شاكراً لعائلة ادريس مساهمتها في إعادة تأهيل المركز.

وشكرت رولا ادريس «والدتها هيفاء على دعمها لوالدها خالد في مسيرته الطبية ولكل العائلة»، وأشارت الى «أنّ المركز هو ترجمة لطموحات وآمال هيفاء ادريس»، لافتة الى «أنّ المركز يساهم في التوعية على موضوع الأمراض التناسلية ويوفر العلاجات اللازمة لزيادة الخصوبة».

وأوضحت «أن افتتاح المركز هو بمثابة احتفال بالأمل للأمهات والنساء بالتزامن مع عيد الأم للتأكيد على أن الجراح ممكن بلسمتها».

وأكد وليد ادريس باسم العائلة «متابعة مسيرة العطاء»، لافتاً الى أن «تجديد المركز يصب في خانة التواصل المستمر مع الجامعة الأميركية من أجل توفير علاج أكبر عدد من المرضى».

وشدد كريم ادريس «على حمل شعلة الخير التي تقودها العائلة من جيل الى جيل والاستمرار في العطاء سواء في لبنان أو في المملكة العربية السعودية».

وفي الختام، جالت هيفاء ادريس وأفراد العائلة مع الطاقم الطبي والمشاركين في أرجاء المركز الذي بات مفتوحاً أمام المرضى بعد إعادة تأهيله وتجديده.
